As Asia-Pacific enters a critical phase of digital and economic transformation in 2026, technology leaders across the region are increasingly faced with one core challenge: how to scale innovation in ways that are trusted, inclusive, and sustainable.

Perspectives from Asia Tech Alliance members point to a shared outlook for 2026 – one shaped by responsible AI adoption, user wellbeing, infrastructure building and investment, and closer collaboration between industry and governments

  • Responsible and inclusive AI adoption, supported by strong infrastructure building

  • User-centric designs continuing to evolve, from platforms to wearables

  • Open ecosystems and collaborative governance to enable innovation at scale

As Asia-Pacific continues to shape the global digital landscape, the Asia Tech Alliance remains committed to fostering dialogue and collaboration among technology leaders who believe that the future of innovation must be built on trust, responsibility, and progress.

Designing Platforms for Wellbeing and Positive Engagement

For Pinterest, the future of technology is inseparable from the wellbeing of its users—particularly younger generations.

“Pinterest is deliberately designed for positivity. As a visual search and discovery platform, we are pioneering a different approach to platform design that prioritises user wellbeing over addictive engagement, especially for young people. Pinterest was the first platform to shift under-16s from public to private by default and a year later, Gen Z became our largest and fastest-growing audience. Now, Gen Z flock to Pinterest and make up over 50% of users. We are building shopper engagement with our unique AI-powered Taste Graph - 500B pins across 10B boards - creating unique intent signals and powering personalised visual search, and discovery.

Pinterest's example underscores a vital principle: trust, safety, and intentional design are not obstacles to expansion but are instead the bedrock upon which growth is built.

AI as a Catalyst for Regional Growth and Competitiveness

For Google, the focus for 2026 is on continuing to expand AI’s potential as an engine of economic growth across Asia-Pacific—while ensuring it is governed responsibly.

“Google is committed to continuing our partnership with governments across APAC to boost their AI competitiveness through widespread AI adoption and innovation. AI is a transformative technology which can help the region’s economies leapfrog, boost national competitiveness and address complex societal challenges. To realise this potential, governments and industry should deepen collaboration to promote a vibrant AI ecosystem that invests in AI infrastructure, encourages widespread AI adoption, and shaping an enabling policy environment which promotes innovation. A risk-based, proportionate AI governance approach will also be critical to ensuring the benefits of technology are shared broadly, creating a more prosperous and inclusive future for the region.”

This supports the idea that AI adoption, infrastructure investment, and governance must advance in parallel, supported by strong public-private collaboration.

Building the Next Generation of AI and Wearable Innovation

Meta sees the year ahead as a turning point not just for AI, but for how AI is experienced—through wearables, platforms, and everyday digital interactions.

“2026 will be a pivotal year for AI and wearable innovation across the Asia Pacific. Meta is building the next generation of AI technology—including wearable AI like Meta AI glasses, as well as seamless AI integration across WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger to help people create, learn and connect, and to help businesses automate tasks, reach customers and improve performance.

We’re investing in the infrastructure to scale this. By supporting open ecosystems and developer innovation, and encouraging pro-innovation regulation, we can unlock new opportunities for creators and enterprises as AI becomes more adaptive and useful in a rapidly evolving digital world.”

Meta’s outlook suggests that AI’s impact will be defined not only by technological capability, but by accessibility, interoperability, and supportive policy environments that allow innovation to scale responsibly.

Responsible AI at Scale and the Future of the Open Web

As AI becomes embedded across everyday digital experiences, Yahoo points to responsibility at scale as a defining issue for the next phase of innovation.

“AI’s next phase will be shaped by how responsibly it’s applied at scale. At Yahoo, we’re integrating AI across our products while collaborating with industry peers on shared standards, regulatory clarity, and the preservation of a vibrant open web. Together, innovation and sound governance can ensure the meaningful, reliable experiences our users turn to every day.”

Yahoo’s emphasis on shared standards and regulatory clarity reflects the notion that the health of the digital ecosystem depends on cooperation—across companies, sectors, and borders.
